COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (MARCH 30, 2006) — How will Focus on the Family, one of the largest evangelical organizations in the country, stop millions from flocking to theaters this May to see the highly anticipated release of The Da Vinci Code? The answer: it won’t.

Focus on the Family, recognizing that millions of Americans of all faiths will fill theater seats when The Da Vinci Code releases May 19, won’t tell constituents to stay away. Instead the ministry, which reaches an international audience of over 200 million, is offering resources by top Christian scholars online at http://go.family.org/davinci/ to help moviegoers better understand and answer the questions the novel raised.

“We realize that we won’t be able to stop people from seeing this film, but we can be prepared to answer their questions,” said Alex McFarland, director of teen apologetics for Focus on the Family. “Entertainment media has the ability to change history. Oliver Stone’s JFK altered the way a generation viewed the Kennedy assassination; The Da Vinci Code may change the way future generations view Christianity. Christians need to be educated and ready to respond to the critical questions millions will be asking.”

The Web site compiles original content from key Christian leaders including Lee Strobel, Josh McDowell and Erwin Lutzer in one location, creating perhaps one of the largest and most comprehensive Web sites on the novel and movie. The site also serves as a portal for news media seeking a greater understanding of the evangelical objections to Dan Brown’s story.

I’ve had this article sitting here on my desk, staring me in the face for a good two months now. I kept meaning to publish it except for the fact that it doesn’t apply to the vast majority of people that read my work. So I would put it off.

You see, this article is targeted at the nearly 50% of Americans that don’t pay any income tax each year. Again, not my typical reader.

But tax time is upon us again and April 15th is around the corner so I figured why not once again set the record straight even though the vast majority of people that need to hear the message will never visit here. That message is you DO pay taxes. I don’t care how much money to “get back” each year you DO pay taxes.

America is at a dangerous time in her history. We are precariously close to the tipping point where more people than not are going to be living off the benefits of government without paying for them. At least in perception.

Make no mistake, this is the goal of many, which is to make a minority of Americans beholden to the whim of a majority and fund this country. Again, at least in perception.

Khomeini's speech followed the long American embassy hostage ordeal which was led by today's Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. This speech will give you the motivation and reason why the violent actions towards non-Muslims is so prevalent today. 

The real Day of God is the day that Amir al mo’menin  (1) drew his sword and slaughtered all the khavarej (2) and killed them from the first to the last.

The Days of God are when Allah, the gracious, the almighty, causes an earthquake.

It is when He slaps on the face.

It is when he causes a hurricane.

He whips this people to become humans. 

If the Amir al mo’menin  (1) wanted to be tolerant, he would not have drawn his sword killing 700 people in one go

In our prisons we have more of the same kind of people who are corrupt.

If we do not kill them, each one of them that gets out, will become a murderer!

They don’t become humans.

In the wake of 9/11 and subsequent terrorist attacks around the world, there is a real temptation to allow the government to take away some of our most precious rights in exchange for greater security. We must resist this temptation. In order to have a free society, there are certain prices that have to be paid. One of those is the possibility that someone will take advantage of our freedom and use it as an opportunity to endanger us. So what if they do? Giving up any part of our freedom is not the answer. In fact, that’s exactly what the terrorists want. When we do that, they win.

The U.S.A. Patriot Act is a step in the wrong direction and could represent a slippery slope toward further erosion of our rights. Write your Representative and Senators and ask them to repeal the U.S.A. Patriot Act and avoid passing similar legislation in the future. If we don’t do something soon, the U.S. could soon have policies similar to many communist, fascist, and Islamic fundamentalist countries, all under the guise of greater security!

People have accused me of being "obsessive and overzealous" on this issue but that’s okay with me. Ask some of the senior citizens in Cuba who have been under Castro’s repressive regime for 45 years how they feel now. I bet many of them wish they would have been a little more "obsessive and overzealous" about their freedom in 1959, instead of standing by passively when the communists took over. Look what it’s gotten them!

I would imagine that even before the ink on the Declaration of Independence had dried, the sentences: "Are we gonna have a flag? We gotta have a flag! Britain has a flag!" were echoed by members of the Continental Congress. But then, a flag is important. It is a symbol representing a group and their beliefs — a means of identification.

It has long been reported that in May of 1776, Betsy Ross sewed the first version of the flag we use today. The American flag has, of course, gone through several design transformations since then, as states were added to the nation and stars were added to the design.

Symbolism Abounding

Unique and appealing as the design is, I think our flag is also full of symbolism. To me, the red stripes indicate courage, blood and suffering. The white stripes mean truth, purity and open-mindedness. The word stripes, itself, is associated with oppressions, struggles, punishments and lessons learned. An enduring flag represents a state of surviving or coming-of-age the hard way.

Actor Rob Reiner, who gained his fame as ‘Meathead’ on the popular All in the Family sitcom, has successfully taken his liberal television political views to California’s government. But he has his eyes on the nation as well. The Washington Post describes his "dual crusade: to change the direction of politics and to improve the performance of kids in schools. He bids, someday, to be the Democrats’ answer to Ronald Reagan."

It was just a few years ago, in 1998, when Reiner’s Prop 10 passed and got him appointed as the first Chair of First 5 California Children and Families Commission by Governor Gray Davis, to implement Prop 10’s "health care, preschool and other critical services to prepare them (preschoolers) to succeed in school."

Prop 10 put a 50-cent per pack tax on cigarettes and has generated more than $4 billion since 1999, with 20 percent of the money going to First 5. In 2004-05 alone First 5’s share of the money was $119 million. Today Reiner and his commission are facing a full-scale audit into allegations they used government money to promote his newest initiative, Prop 82, which will be on California’s June ballot. If passed, Prop 82 will establish universal preschool for all 4 year olds in the Golden State. 

But what’s Reiner and his campaign not telling us about his newest initiative?

During a two-week enforcement action that culminated March 9, federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 375 gang members and associates in 23 states in a joint effort with law enforcement agencies nationwide.

The arrests are the latest under the auspices of “Operation Community Shield,” a comprehensive initiative launched by ICE roughly one year ago to disrupt and dismantle transnational, violent street gangs. Operation Community Shield represents the first time the federal government has used immigration and customs authorities in a combined, national campaign against criminal street gangs in the United States.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced the results at a press conference today with ICE Assistant Secretary Julie Myers; Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Emilio Gonzalez; Assistant Director of Field Operations at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Michael Bouchard, First Assistant Chief of the Dallas Police Department David O’Neal Brown, and Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division Deborah Pierce.

In the past year, ICE has conducted several targeted enforcement actions under Operation Community Shield, including the latest one. In total, these efforts have resulted in the arrest of 2,388 members of 239 different gangs and the seizure of 117 firearms. Fifty-one of those arrested were gang leaders. Roughly 922 of those arrested were from the street gang Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13). Those arrested under Operation Community Shield are prosecuted criminally or removed from the United States through immigration proceedings. To date, 533 have been charged criminally, while 1,855 have been hit with administrative immigration charges.

A press release by The Becket Fund which makes its case for religious freedom in the court of public opinion, as well as the courts of law.

An Orthodox Jewish school won a decisive victory under RLUIPA’s (Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000) land use provisions. Westchester Day School, which has been the subject of protracted litigation, recently won at trial against the Village of Mamaroneck. The school has been fighting for several years to renovate its facilities, some of which are more than a century old. After a 7-day trial, the court issued a detailed opinion.

In the opinion, the court found that RLUIPA applied to WDS’ case under both its interstate commerce (due to construction activities and out-of-state students) and individualized assessments (due to land use permitting procedures) prongs. The court found that the village placed a substantial burden on WDS’ religious exercise by seriously impeding that exercise and having a “chilling effect” upon it. In the words of the court:

By precluding the construction of much needed facilities, defendants significantly interfered with WDS’ ability to provide an adequate and effective dual curriculum of Judaic and general studies education, and so limited its ability to retain and attract students and faculty as to imperil its continued existence.

The village also failed the strict scrutiny test mandated by RLUIPA. It failed to demonstrate that its traffic interests were compelling, and that no other means, such as re-timing lights, widening roads, or adding turn lanes, would adequately address the problem. It also failed to demonstrate that decreased property values, parking concerns, and the aesthetic impact of the construction were a compelling interests and that could not be mitigated.

Lastly, the court also rejected an Establishment Clause challenge to RLUIPA, relying in part upon the Supreme Court’s decision in Cutter v. Wilkinson upholding RLUIPA’s prisoner provisions against an Establishment Clause challenge.

10 March 2006: The FBI has warned stadium operators to be alert for possible suicide bomb attack at sporting events. A posting on a terrorist-sponsored web site solicited homicide and suicide attacks against people at stadiums and sporting events in the U.S. using groups of 3-5 "blond or black American Muslim suicide bombers."

The posting advised potential bombers to hide homemade explosives under their winter clothing to avoid detection by stadium security personnel. Also, the posting suggests that one terrorist operative should detonate an explosive inside the stadium, while a second operative should detonate a secondary explosive device near an exit as people hurriedly leave the stadium to achieve "maximum effect."
